Zusammenfassung |
Length-frequency distributions were simulated for species with recruitment patterns characteristic of many tropical fish: 1) one recruitment peak per year, fast growth and very high mortality, 2) one recruitment peak per year, slow growth and moderate to high mortality 3) two recruitment peaks per year, slow growth and moderate to high mortality, and 4) random recruitment, slow growth and moderate to high mortality. Two microcomputer program packages – one incorporating the ELEFAN I & II programs and the other implementing a form of Modal Progression Analysis – were used to estimate growth and mortality parameters, and these were compared with the initial parameters used to generate the simulated samples. The results, while generally encouraging, suggest that multiple recruitments per year make it difficult to estimate growth and mortality parameters using these two packages. |

Computer simulation of fish growth was conducted in order to clarify the mechanism of individual variation in terms of coefficient of variation (CV) and skewness of frequency distribution (sk). Normal distributions of initial body length, specific growth rate (growth coefficient) and asymptotic value were supposed. In exponential growth accompanied by the changes of distribution of body length from normal to lognormal, both CV and sk continuously increased. |

Akamine's (1986) BASIC program by Marquardt's method was rewritten for Richards model and its expanded model by the periodic function. For 0.9 similar to 1.1 the “LOG” function is corrected by Taylor series. Data estimated to be negative are cut off. AIC judges the effect of adding n to the parameters. Richards model is not so important in practice but it is important theoretically. |

When histograms are used instead of raw data to estimate parameters by the maximum likelihood method, data has an error distributed according to a regular distribution among the width of the histogram. This influence on the estimation of parameters is evaluated by the linearized error propagation rule. Covariance is in proportion to the width squared and in inverse proportion to the number of data. Even if the number of data is large, the precision is low for small normal distributions. In practice, an adequate width will be given by the shapes of the histograms. |

Multiattribute utility theory (MAUT) and integer programming are employed to examine optimal sampling strategies for commercial invertebrate fisheries in British Columbia, Canada. Attributes considered in the study take into account various biological, economic, social, and political aspects of the fisheries. Twenty-six fishery managers, biologists, and researches from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans participated in ranking and assigning weights to each of the attributes to provide overall utility scores. Integer programming was then employed to generate optimal sampling strategies subject to various cost, personnel, are, and fishery constraints. The results clearly demonstrate the potential usefulness of MAUT analysis for developing strategies to monitor commercial invertebrate fisheries. |

Zusammenfassung |
The influences of density-dependent and density-independent factors on year-class strength (YCS) of Corogonus lavaretus in Lake Constance were studied by multiple linear regression analyses for the period from 1962 to 1982. Meteorological conditions that lead to early thermal stratification of the lake in April are of prime importance for YCS and account for 41% of the total YCS variance. Zooplankton concentration during spring has no significant influence on YCS. The extensive stocking program on the lake (50-200 million larvae stocked per year) significantly supports YCS, but this relationship becomes apparent only after the influence of meteorological conditions are removed from the data. |
