Titel TUNE: A series of fish stock assessment computer programs written in FORTRAN for microcomputers (MS DOS) Typ Zeitschrift, Artikel
Jahr 1990 Publikation Collect. Vol. Sci. Pap. Iccat Recl. Doc. Sci. Cicta Colecc. Doc. Cient. Cicaa Kurztitel der Zeitschrift
  Band 32 Ausgabe 2 Seiten 443-460
  Schlüsselwörter computer-programmes; system-analysis; ICCAT-
Zusammenfassung This set of computer programs for stock assessment uses MS FORTRAN 77 version 4.1* for all the programs. The programs will compile under version 3.2 of MS FORTRAN 77, however the Open statements with file types “Unknown” must be changed to “New” or “Old” depending on the expected status of the file. The “shell” called TUNE is used to build the appropriate batch file for submission of the multiple runs used for calibration. Each of these programs is an interactive stand alone module, each can be used independently of the others. This report gives an outline of how and where these programs fit into an analytical process. A set of disks with the source code and the executable (*.EXE) files is available from the editor or the programs can be copied from the ICCAT Secretariat in Madrid; an Annex to this report containing a listing of the source code is also available. A glossary of terms commonly used in the assessment process is presented in Appendix I.

Titel Model for optimization of socio-economic fishery values on the Rio Grande in New Mexico Typ
Jahr 1987 Publikation Kurztitel der Zeitschrift
  Band Ausgabe Seiten 258
  Schlüsselwörter economic-models; sport-fishing; fishery-economics; USA,-New-Mexico,-Grande-R.-basin
Zusammenfassung A mathematical model which simulates sport-fish production yield and economic value in the Rio Grande basin of New Mexico is described. The model links hydrologic, biologic, and economic components into a mathematical representation of fisheries habitat, fishery dynamics, economic benefits, and income generated by sport-fishing in New Mexico. The model has a research version programmed in FORTRAN. The model users can modify water volume flowing through the basin by month, water stored in each reservoir, water discharged through connecting water material concentrations (suspended solids, total phosphorus, total nitrogen) in the water, site access, and site quality.   Zusammenfassung A recently introduced multivariate state-space time-series modeling algorithm, system-theoretic time-series, can be used to create a particularly robust state-space representation. Combining the model approximation methodology with time-series modeling of the residuals in accurate models of short-run dynamics. The approximate structural modeling methodology is illustrated with single species models of yellowfin sole (Limanda aspera ) biomass, and multispecies models of Pacific halibut (Hippoglossus stenolepis ), yellowfin sole, and red king crab (Paralithodes camtschatica ) biomasses in the eastern Bering Sea. A final application of the approximate structural/system-theoretic time-series model includes walleye pollock (Theragra chalcogramma ), Pacific halibut, Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus ), yellowfin sole, and red king crab.   Titel Computer program for analysis of the homogeneity and goodness of fit of frequency distributions, FORTRAN 4 Typ Zeitschrift, Artikel
Jahr 1978 Publikation Fish. Bull. Kurztitel der Zeitschrift
  Band 76 Ausgabe 1 Seiten 285
  Schlüsselwörter computer-programmes; population-structure
Zusammenfassung A computer program was developed which forms frequency distributions from length measurements and then calculates a chi-square statistic which is used to test the homogeneity of the frequencies for the purpose of pooling. Output includes listing of arithmetic mean, variance, standard deviation, standard error of the mean, total sample size, and chi-square statistic of goodness of fit for individual groups and for the pooled frequency distribution. Histograms of all frequency distributions are produced as full-page printer charts, scaled if necessary to 50 units by up to 100 class intervals. The pooled frequencies and class midpoints are punched on cards to facilitate additional analyses. The program was developed on an IBM 360/65 OS System and required 56,811 bytes of storage.

  Band 51 Ausgabe 3 Seiten 723-733
  Schlüsselwörter fishery-management; stock-assessment; mathematical-models; growth-curves; biological-age; length-; Thunnus-albacares; AE,-East-Atlantic; tuna-fisheries
Zusammenfassung An adjustment method for age-length keys is presented that incorporates yearly variability in cohort abundances. The method is based on two models (one for growth and the other for standard deviations of length versus age) and involves an iterative algorithm. The algorithm rapidly converges to stable results that yield, under some conditions, maximum likelihood estimates. It is also used to estimate parameters of the length standard deviation model. The method is applied to yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) catches in the eastern Atlantic from 1975 to 1989.

Jahr 1989 Publikation Kurztitel der Zeitschrift
  Band Ausgabe Seiten 48
  Schlüsselwörter recruitment-; environmental-effects; computer-programmes; time-series; fishery-management
Zusammenfassung Prager and Hoenig (in press) used a randomization procedure to test the significance of discrete environmental events, such as el Nino-Southern Oscillation events, on a time series of recruitment. Their procedure implicitly accounted for autocorrelation and other problems frequently encountered when trying to use a parametric testing procedure. In a follow up paper, Prager and Hoenig (in prep.) investigated the power of several randomization tests and compared them to parametric alternatives. This report presents the two Fortran computer programs used in these studies.

Titel A versatile computer program for mixed stock fishery composition estimation Typ
Jahr 1990 Publikation Kurztitel der Zeitschrift
  Band Ausgabe Seiten 32
  Schlüsselwörter check-lists; approximation-; computer-programmes; stock-assessment
Zusammenfassung This technical report describes a FORTRAN program (HISEA.FOR) to be used in the study of mixed stock fishery composition estimation. Program HISEA is a versatile research tool capable of performing analyses. The simplest use of HISEA is to perform a composition analysis. The program can then be run in bootstrap mode to provide a non-parametric estimate of the reliability of the estimated compositions. In simulation mode, HISEA can quantify the effect of changing sample sizes; of adding or removing variables; and of adding or removing stocks. Simulation also identifies potential problems (such as high bias and variance in the composition estimators) that may arise due to different stocks being too alike.

Titel Fitting and comparing several growth curves of the generalized von Bertalanffy type Typ Zeitschrift, Artikel
Jahr 1986 Publikation Can. J. Fish. Aquat. Sci Kurztitel der Zeitschrift
  Band 43 Ausgabe 8 Seiten 1656-1659
  Schlüsselwörter mathematical-models; growth-curves; fishery-biology; evaluation-
Zusammenfassung The earlier version of the von Bertalanffy growth formula (VBGF) has three parameters and is a special case of the “generalized” VBGF which has four parameters. The special VBGF can easily lead to erroneous results whereas the large flexibility built into the generalized VBGF enables it to provide a biologically realistic fit to the data. The author presents a statistical method and a computer program in Fortran to fit the generalized VBGF to a sample (a sample comprises several age groups, with one or more observations in an age group) and to examine statistically the fit to a sample and to compare statistically these curves (and their individual parameters) fitted to several samples. An example is provided, which also compares the fit of the generalized VBGF with the special VBGF.

Titel A method for the estimation of growth, mortality and gear selection/recruitment parameters from length-frequency samples weighted by catch per effort Typ Buch, Kapitel
Jahr 1987 Publikation Kurztitel der Zeitschrift
  Band 13 Ausgabe Seiten 75-102
  Schlüsselwörter stock-assessment; recruitment-; size-distribution; length-; mathematical-models, marine-fisheries
Zusammenfassung This paper describes a method and a FORTRAN program for the estimation of von Bertalanffy growth parameters, total mortality rates and gear selection/recruitment parameters from a time series of length-frequency samples weighted by catch per effort (e.g., numbers caught per hour by length class each quarter of the year). The length frequencies are separated into normally distributed components each of which represents a cohort. This method is constructed to allow for continuous, seasonally variable recruitment all year-round and is intended to be used especially for tropical and other fish stocks displaying an appropriate recruitment pattern.
